Slinky Malinki and Stickybeak Syd
were a troublesome pair; do you know what they did?
Alone in the house one mischievous day,
they opened a door and they started to play.

They shredded a shirt and they fought with a shoe,
a long woollen scarf and a petticoat too.
THEN… Slinky Malinki jumped high off the floor,
he swung on a handle and opened a door.

The house was asleep. It was silent and still,
with flickering shadows on ceiling and sill.
Slinky Malinki was cosy and snug,
curled in a ball on the raggedy rug.

He opened an eye, inspected his toes,

Slinky Malinki was blacker than black,
a stalking and lurking adventurous cat.

But at night he was wicked and fiendish and sly.
Through moonlight and shadow he’d prowl and he’d pry.

WHO is the roughest and toughest of cats?
The boldest, the bravest, the fiercest of cats?
Wicked of eye and fiendish of paw
is mighty, magnificent, SCARFACE CLAW.

Scaredy cats tremble and people all shout,
whenever this tomcat is out and about.
No matter what happens, whoever might call,
there’s NOTHING that frightens him, nothing at all.

Climbing the river bank on to the track,
went pittery pattery Zachary Quack.

He scruffled a centipede out of its house,
he pestered a spider and ruffled a mouse.

He bustled a beetle, asleep on a chair,
and hustled a dragonfly into the air.

FLICK went the dragonfly, FLICK, FLICK, FLICK,
here, there and everywhere, quick, quick, quick.
