The latest edition of Later… with Jools Holland featured two bands making smashing comebacks. Muse are the bigger name, and judging by the performances below, their upcoming album Drones (slated for release this Friday) is going to be a riot. Sleater-Kinney, on the other hand, ended their 10-year hiatus with an unassuming release that proved the riot grrrls still got it. Mosh on!
(By the way, I’m aware that clips from the BBC may not be available to watch in all countries. If I have decent alternatives, I go for those, but quality will come first. Apologies to international readers of unsatisfied curiosity.)

The Hootenanny is an entrenched household tradition: if we are at home, we ring in the new year with Jools and his guests; if we are away, we program the box to record it and watch it when we get back. I’m not as enthusiastic as the mister about it… the show itself can be a mixed bag, as Jools doesn’t really answer to anyone about who he picks to invite, and our tastes don’t overlap too much. This year, though, it was a good bunch, and Joss Stone dominated it easily, not just with her vocal prowess but also with her style, including her three (fabulous) outfit changes. Carrying off sparkly evening gowns barefoot makes for one classy lady.
